|Taiwan Imports 289,384 Tons Ordinary Steel Scrap In July 04|
Taiwan imported a total of 289,384 tons of ordinary steel scrap in July 2004 on a customs clearance basis, up 28.2% from a year ago, according to preliminary Taiwanese customs statistics.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan accounted for 104,428 tons, up 16.6% from a year ago; Russia 103,057 tons, up 446.8%; the Philippines 52,446 tons, up 57.3%; and Hong Kong 15,058 tons, up 39.3%. The import volume from the USA was 4,008 tons, down 94.3% from the year before.
In January-July 2004, Taiwan's customs cleared imports of ordinary steel scrap totaled 1,873,314 tons, up 31.8% from the same 2003 period.
