Taiwan's iron ore imports in November 2004 were 1,128 thousand metric tons (Kt), being level with the previous year. As a result, January to November imports totaled 14,280 Kt, up 69 Kt (0.5%) from 14,212 Kt in the previous corresponding period. Meanwhile iron and steel production in 2004 (according to IISI survey) revealed 19,347 Kt of crude steel (up 2.7% from the previous year) and 10,326 Kt of pig iron (up 0.6%).|
Major import sources for the eleven-month period were Australia 8,828 Kt (Jan-Nov 2003: 9,024 Kt), Brazil 3,885 Kt (3,535 Kt), India 830 Kt (690 Kt), Canada 660 Kt (435 Kt). Downfall by 2.2% of Australian ores in the total imports has been made up for by ores from Brazil, India and Canada.
