Tokyo Steel Ups Local Scrap Purchase Prices At Four Works
Japan's top electric steelmaker Tokyo Steel Mfg Co has increased what the company pays for locally available ferrous scrap by 1,500-3,000/ton at its Okayama, Kyushu, Takamatsu, and Utsunomiya works, effective with March 1 arrivals.

What Tokyo Steel has done marks changes in its purchase prices for the first time in one month since February 1 and increased purchase prices for the first time since Oct 9 last year.

At the Okayama and Takamatsu works, the purchase prices are up Y2,000/ton for seaborne and overland arrivals of pressed turnings, steel turnings, and machine shop turnings, while they are up Y3,000/ton for seaborne and overland arrivals of other grades. At the Kyushu works, the purchase prices are up Y1,500/ton for seaborne and overland arrivals of pressed turnings, steel turnings, and machine shop turnings, while they are up Y2,500/ton for seaborne and overland arrivals of other grades. At the Utsunomiya works, the purchase prices are up Y3,000/ton across the board.

As a result, the new purchase prices of No2 HMS are Y25,500/ton delivered Okayama works, Y23,000/ton delivered Kyushu works, Y23,000/ton delivered Takamatsu works, each for arrivals by land and sea, and Y23,000/ton delivered Utsunomiya works for overland arrivals.
