| China's Scrap Imports Total 820,000 Tons In April 05 |

China's customs cleared imports of ferrous scrap totaled 820,000 tons in April 2005, down 150,000 tons or 15.5% from 970,000 tons a month ago, indicate preliminary Chinese trade statistics. In January-April 2005, China's customs cleared imports of ferrous scrap totaled 3,380,000 tons, down 20.1% from the same 2004 period. Meanwhile, China's customs cleared imports of steel ingots and semis totaled 120,000 tons in April 2005. They amounted to 520,000 tons in January-April 2005, down 79.2% from 2,510,000 tons in the same 2004 period. By comparison, China's customs cleared exports of steel ingots and semis totaled 800,000 tons in April 2005. They amounted to 3,670,000 tons in January-April 2005, up by a factor of 7.8 from 470,000 tons in the corresponding 2004 period. |
