Sumitomo Metals Makes Good Start With 1Q/05
= Financial conditions largely improved with strong likelihood to beat 2004 record profit
Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. announced its financial results for the first quarter (April - June) of fiscal year ending in March 2006, according to which major income statement items turned out:

- Sales:344 billion 555 million yen
- Operating profit: 65 billion 485 million yen,
- Recurring profit: 63 billion 24 million yen,
- Net income: 38 billion 424 million yen

ROS (Recurring profit ratio to Sales) was boosted to 18.3%, well over the 14.0% for the Mar/05-ended fiscal year.
Financial conditions displayed also a large improvement over the previous term.
Given the present results, current fiscal year is very likely to end up outperforming the previous year, with profit vigorously renewing the record.
