| Japan`s Exports Of Nickel Metal In November 2005 Came To 751 Tons |
| = The Export For China Became Highest Scale In Its History, Following 300 Tons In October |
|
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, the exports of nickel from Japan in November of 2005 were as per the tables attached hereto. Namely, Japan 751 tons of nickel metal ( unwrought nickel ) in November of 2005, following the 300 tons exported in October, and the exports of nickel metal from Japan recorded an unusually large scale. The quantities of nickel metal exported from Japan to main destinations in Nonmember of 2005 were <> for China : 404.4 tons, <> for Hong Kong : 340.6 tons and <> 2 tons each for Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, totaling to 6 tons. If the 340.6 tons exported for Hong Kong were delivered to China, the total quantity of nickel metal exported for China came to 744 tons. The unit prices of nickel metal were US$13,260 per ton for China and US$12,571 per ton for Hong Kong. For a reference, the averaged monthly prices of LME nickel were <> November : US$12,115 per ton, <> October : US$12,434, <> September : US$14,228, <> August : US$14,892 and <> July : US$14,580 per ton. Owing to the fact that the demand for nickel metal from high functional material sector in Japan has decreased considerably from the second half of 2005, the quantities of nickel metal imported into Japan by trading companies under the existing contracts have come up to the surface with a phenomenon of the excess and it is supposed that more than 2,000 tons of such nickel metal as floating have been resold or transmitted to foreign trading companies or overseas markets. Usually, many cases are to resell nickel metal at the phase of bonded cargoes without paying an import duty of Yen 44,000 per ton. However, it is viewed that the nickel metal imported from overseas sources into Japan and customs-cleared was exported from Japan this time, but such record as this large quantity of nickel metal was exported from Japan in the past years is so far not seen. Accordingly, it has symbolized a severe phenomenon of the situation that an excessive quantity of nickel metal had existed in Japan in the second half of 2005. However, on the other hand, it has been thought as the case that the base to stock nickel metal has been changed from the shrunk market in Japan to the dynamic market in China, increasing the demand for nickel. Therefore, a series of nickel metal exported from Japan to China as seen this time has included many opaque parts of its intention. For a reference, the quantities of nickel metal shipped from two main ports in Japan in November were <> from Osaka port : 324 tons for China and 340 tons for Hong Kong and <> from Kobe port : 80 tons for China These two ports of Osaka and Kobe are main bases to import Russian nickel. On the other hand, according to an information from Hong Kong, the 220 tons of nickel metal imported from Japan were discharged at Hong Kong port in early November. |
