| World's Steel Demand To Continue Favorable In 2006: JISF Chairman |
|
The world's steel demand is expected to continue favorable in 2006 as growth demand is standing out, particularly in destinations other than China, Chairman Akio Mimura of the Japan Iron & Steel Federation told his regular press conference held Jan 19. He is concurrently President of Nippon Steel Corp. The following are highlights of what he said at the press conference. <>JISF hopes that measures will go forward smoothly toward solving problems with China's steel industry such as excess capacity and excess production. <>It is likely that Japan's integrated steelmakers will settle import price negotiations on coking coal earlier than iron ore for raw materials supplies in fiscal 2006 (April 2006-March 2007). They have yet to begin serious negotiations on iron ore imports for fiscal 2006. <>Hyundai Motor Group's project to build blast furnaces in South Korea may face many twists and turns for lack of rationality. |
