World's Steel Demand To Continue Favorable In 2006: JISF Chairman
The world's steel demand is expected to continue favorable in 2006 as growth demand is standing out, particularly in destinations other than China, Chairman Akio Mimura of the Japan Iron & Steel Federation told his regular press conference held Jan 19. He is concurrently President of Nippon Steel Corp.

The following are highlights of what he said at the press conference.

<>JISF hopes that measures will go forward smoothly toward solving problems with China's steel industry such as excess capacity and excess production.
<>It is likely that Japan's integrated steelmakers will settle import price negotiations on coking coal earlier than iron ore for raw materials supplies in fiscal 2006 (April 2006-March 2007). They have yet to begin serious negotiations on iron ore imports for fiscal 2006.
<>Hyundai Motor Group's project to build blast furnaces in South Korea may face many twists and turns for lack of rationality.
