| Molybdenum Production By Kennecott / USA In CY 2005 Doubled |
| = Produced 34.39 Million Lbs. Of Moly In Molybdenum Concentrates |
|
It was known on the 19th of January that Kennecott of the USA produced 15,600 tons ( 34.39 million lbs. ) of molybdenum in molybdenum concentrates at their Bingham Canyon mine in the calender year ( January - December ) of 2005, having increased by 2.29 times compared with that ( 6,800 tons = 14.99 million lbs. ) in the preceding year of 2004. This considerable increase of molybdenum production by Kennecott in 2005 was due to the fact that, by taking a chance on the soared prices of molybdenum products, Kennecott endeavored to expand their production of molybdenum concentrates at the Bingham Canyon mine. In order to strengthen the capacity to recover molybdenum as by-product from copper ore, Kennecott has expanded this capacity in the middle of 2005 and its effect contributed to the output of molybdenum in 2005. For a reference, Kennecott produced 220,600 tons of copper ore at this mine in 2005 as decreased by 16% compared to that in 2004. On the other hand, the content of molybdenum in crude ore produced at the Bingham Canyon mine in 2005 raised from that in 2004. Kennecott concentrated their production of molybdenum concentrates on the deposit contained with rich molybdenum and ,consequently, the averaged content of molybdenum in crude ore produced in 2005 was 0.058%, which was much higher than 0.033% in 2004. While the higher quantities of molybdenum in concentrates produced at the Bingham Canyon mine in the past were <> 2000 : 22.3 million lbs. and <> 2001 : 17.9 million lbs., the 34.39 million lbs. of molybdenum in concentrates produced by Kennecott in 2005 had recorded the highest quantity in its history. The quarterly quantities of molybdenum in molybdenum concentrates produced by Kennecott in 2005 were as follows ( the figures in parentheses were those in 2004 and the total quantity did not match with those by quarters as odds were raised to a unit. ) ; <> January - March quarter : 3,900 tons ( 1,600 tons ), <> April - June quarter : 3,300 tons ( 900 tons ), <> July - September quarter : 3,900 tons ( 1,500 tons ), <> October - December quarter : 4,600 tons ( 2,800 tons ) and <> total : 15,600 tons ( 6,800 tons ). |
