Brazilian Slab Export Prices For Asia At $350 FOB Level
Prices on offer stand at a level of US$350/ton FOB in steel slab exports out of Brazil to Asia for shipments in the April-June quarter of 2006, according to information made available in Tokyo.

As a result, it follows that the Brazilian offers this time mark an upswing of US$20 from what they were at the beginning of February. They also indicate an advance of US$50 from a low of the prices.

The international market for slabs is said to have turned up after a blast furnace accident at the Volta Redonda works of Brazilian integrated steelmaker Cia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN). Also, there are signs of imported slab prices moving up in Asia.

Brazilian slab export prices for the USA, too, have already hit a level of US$350/ton FOB, a price level that amounts to US$400/ton C&F, according to market sources.

Rising transaction prices of slabs are certain to bring an upswing of HR coil prices in the world's markets, market observers forecast.
