India's largest privately owned steel company, Tata Steel, announced October 3 its Production Performance for the first half year (April to September) of fiscal year 2007, according to which the Company produced 2.641 million tons (Mt) of hot metal or pig iron, and 2.455 Mt of crude steel, with each 4% and 5% higher than in the previous corresponding period.
During the reporting period, relining and upgrading work was carried out on the "E" blast furnace, the smallest one at the Company's Jamshedpur steelworks, which will enhance the rated capacity from 1,050 to 1,350 tonnes a day. Operation of the furnace is expected to restart in the second week of this month. |
