| SDI's 2006 Net Profit Up 78.9% To $396.7M |

The USA's major electric steelmaker Steel Dynamics Inc (SDI) of Fort Wayne, Indiana won an increase of 78.9% to $396.707 million in net profit in its financial results for January-December 2006. For the whole of 2006, SDI announced financial results of $3,238.787 million in sales, up 48.2% from a year ago; $659.114 million in operating profit, up 67.6%; $631.555 million in pretax profit, up 75.1%; and $396.707 million in net profit, up 78.9%. The net profit per diluted share was $3.77, up from $2.17. Steel shipments totaled 4,688,000 tons in 2006 up 30.5% from a year ago. Unit sales prices of steel products averaged $691/ton, up $83. The ratio of operating profit to sales stood at 20.4%, up 2.4 percentage points. For October-December 2006, SDI reported financial results of $839.8 million in sales, up 47.4% from the same 2005 period; $175.274 million in operating profit, up 53.9%; $168.391 million in pretax profit, up 59.5%; and $105.066 million in net profit, up 61.8%. The net profit per diluted share was $1.03, up from $0.65 in the same 2005 period. Unit sales prices of steel products fell by $13 from a quarter ago to an average $720/ton. But the average price increased by $101 or 16.3% from the corresponding 2005 period. |
