According to the export results compiled by Australian Bureau of Statistics, a total of 17.023 million tons (Mt) of iron ore were exported in January to February this year from Port Hedland in Western Australia, an increase of 2.111 Mt or 14.2% from the same period of a year before.
China continued to be the top destination with 9.122 Mt, accounting for 53.6% in the total (2006: 57.4%), with its growth rate remaining 6.5% alone. Exports to the three economies of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan in turn significantly increased: Japan up 25.3% at 4.035 Mt, sharing 23.7% (2006: 21.6%); South Korea up 33.6% at 2.826 Mt, 16.6% (14.2%); Taiwan up 27.0% at 0.888 Mt, 5.2% (4.7%). |
