China's Iron Ore Imports In Jan / 07 By Discharge Ports
= Imports to top three ports take 53% =
According to China's Customs Statistics, iron ore imports in January 2007 resulted in Qingdao in Shandong Province remaining the top discharge port in terms of volume at 10.3 million tons (Mt) and accounting for 28.8% in the total. Shijiazhuang in the same province followed with 4.794 Mt, with the share jumping to 13.4% from 1.7% in the previous corresponding month. Tianjin in the Tianjin Special District stood third with 3.969 Mt, sharing 11.1%.
The top three ports-all located in the Huabei region-accounted for in excess of 50% at 53.3%.
Fourth onward were Nanjing (Jiangsu Province), Ningbo (Zhejiang), Shanghai (Shanghai Special District), Zhanjiang (Guangdong), Wuhan (Hubei), Dalian (Liaoning), and Hangzhou (Zhejiang). These rounded out the top ten with a total of 31,354 Mt and controlling nearly 90% in the total imports.
