|*China's Scrap Imports Total 1.63M Tons In Jan-Jun 07|
China's ferrous scrap imports totaled 1,630,000 tons in January-June 2007, down 50.9% from the same period of 2006, standing at an annualized 3,260,000 tons, according to Chinese customs statistics. |
In the breakdown by main destinations, Philippines supplied the largest quantity of 292,000 tons or 17.9% of the total, up by a factor of 2.3 from same period of 2006.
Japan ranked second at 275,000 tons or 16.9%, down 53.1%, and Hong Kong third at 176,000 tons or 10.8%, down 30.1%.
Meanwhile, the USA receded to eighth place and its supply volume stood at a mere 82,000 tons or 5.0% of the total, down 90.7%. The USA provided the largest amount in the same period of 2006.
Also, imports from Kazakhstan plunged by 76.3% to 116,000 tons or 7.1% of the total.
