Ferrous scrap exports out of the UK totaled 2,431,000 tons in January-May 2007, down 629,000 tons or 20.5% from the same period of 2006, according to UK customs statistics. As a result, they amounted to an annualized 5,834,000 tons, way down from a total of 7,397,000 tons in 2006.|
In the breakdown by main destinations, Spain took the largest quantity of 668,000 tons or 27.5% of the total, down 4.7% from the same period of 2006, and Turkey the second largest of 613,000 tons or 25.2%, down 42.1%. As a result, the top two destinations together accounted for 52.7% of the total.
Portugal ranked third at 232,000 tons, up 61.8%; France fourth at 195,000 tons, up 42.8%; and Pakistan fifth at 180,000 tons, up 72.2%.
