While BHP Billiton (BHPB) has been proceeding the Cliffs nickel project (shared 100% of interest) in Australia, this nickel project progressed as scheduled and within budget and started its operation from the 30th June of 2008. This project has planned to produce 360,000 tons per annum in material of nickel ore and this operation is expected to contribute to the profit at BHPB.
This mine has still left the work to install some facilities but this work is anticipated to complete by the end of October.
Also, according to a report released on the 23rd of July by BHPB, the manganese project, in which BHPB has shared 60% of interest, has been progressing on schedule and within budget and is expected to be able to produce 1,000,000 tons per annum of manganese ore. The work has completed by 40% of the whole. This manganese project is scheduled to commence the production in the second half of 2009. |
