Jinchuan Nickel / China Was Unable To Achieve Nickel Production As Planned For 1st Half 2008
= Because Of Sichuan Earthquake And Snow Damage, Copper Production Also Decreased
It was known that the financial results at Jinchuan Group Ltd. in Gansu province of China for the first half (January - June) of 2008 were turnover of CNY30,580 million (US$4,497 million), which achieved 58.6% of their annual target and increased by 1.3% compared with that in the same period of 2007. Also, profit before tax came to CNY6,310 million (US$928 million), which achieved 85.3% of their annual target and showed a favorable progress.

However, owing to snow damage and Sichuan earthquake emerged in the first half of 2008, the quantities of nickel and copper produced by Jinchuan Group in the first half of 2008 had decreased in comparison with those planned to produce in the full year of 2008. Jinchuan was initially scheduled to 120,000 tons per annum of nickel and 280,000 tons per annum of copper in 2008 but the actual quantities produced in the first half of 2008 had reached 47.3% for nickel and 42.8% for copper compared to those as planned at the beginning of 2008. Accordingly, Jinchuan Group has aimed to catch up the quantities of nickel and copper as initially planned to produce in 2008.
