China's Iron Ore Imports In June 08 By Discharge Ports

According to China's Customs Statistics for June 2008 announced by the country's Customs General Administration, iron ore imports into the country during the period turned out to be 37.787 million tons (Mt). By major discharge port, Qingdao stood first with 9.559 Mt (share: 25.3%), followed by Shijiazhuang 5.705 Mt (15.1%), Tianjin 3.691 Mt (9.8%), etc. Imports into these three major ports accounted for more than a half of total imports at 50.2%.

January to June imports totaled 230.234 Mt, with major ports and import volume being Qingdao 61.736 Mt (share 26.8%), Shijiazhuang 27.875 Mt (12.1%) and Tianjin 24.662 Mt (10.7%). Given this pace, annualized imports into Qingdao in 2008 are likely to surpass 100 Mt, for the third consecutive year since 2006.
