Japan's Jan-Jun Sheet Pile Exports Total 111,523 Tons
Half-Year Export Volume Tops 100,000 Tons For First Time

Japan's sheet pile exports totaled 111,523 tons in January-June 2008, up 38.3% from the same period of 2007, topping a level of 100,000 tons for the first time as the half-year export volume since 2000. Their values averaged Y91,000/ton FOB (US$865 at an exchange rate of US$1.00-Y105.26), up Y10,000 from Y81,000/ton FOB (US$677 at US$1.00-Y119.71) in the same period of 2007.

In the breakdown by main destinations, South Korea accounted for 10,763 tons at Y95,000/ton FOB on average (US$903 at US$1.00-Y105.20); China 11,010 tons at Y90,000/ton FOB (US$856); Singapore 20,981 tons at Y91,000/ton FOB (US$865); the UK 14,742 tons at Y106,000/ton FOB (US$1,008); and the UAE 3,264 tons at Y104,000/ton FOB (US$989).

Japanese export volumes of sheet piles in the first halves of recent years were 27,092 tons at Y37,000/ton FOB on average in 2000; 45,584 tons at Y33,000/ton FOB in 2001; 48,584 tons at Y33,000/ton FOB in 2002; 32,060 tons at Y35,000/ton FOB (US$296 at US$1.00-Y118.42) in 2003; 41,540 tons at Y46,000/ton FOB (US$420 at US$1.00-109.50) in 2004; 47,702 tons at Y65,000/ton FOB (US$597 at US$1.00-Y108.90) in 2005; and 57,281 tons at Y64,000/ton FOB (US$555 at US$1.00-115.25) in 2006.
