According to the foreign trade statistics (preliminary) for the first half of 2008 released by Australian Bureau of Statistics, iron ore exports from Port Walcott in Western Australia during the period turned out 4.111 million tonnes (Mt) of lump and ROM (down 40.7% from the same period last year) and 22.925 Mt of fines (up 38.3%), totaling 27.037 Mt (up 15.0%). The exports are so far running at an annualized rate of 54 Mt.
Shipments were destined for seven destinations: Japan with 12.956 Mt, up 23.0%; China 8.521 Mt, up 3.1%; South Korea 2.877 Mt, up 55.8%; France 1.227 Mt, down 45.5%; UK 0.529 Mt, up 87.9%; Taiwan 0.522 Mt (net increase); Netherlands 0.405 Mt, up 123.0%. |
