Japanese Crude Steel Production In July 08: 10,189,000 Tons
Japanese crude steel production totaled 10,189,000 tons in July 2008, down 181,000 tons or 1.7% from a month ago (up 1.7% from a year ago), according to the Japan Iron & Steel Federation.

In the breakdown by steelmaking furnaces, LD converters accounted for 7,676,000 tons, up 1.4% from a month ago (up 1.3% from a year ago), and electric arc furnaces 2,513,000 tons, down 10.2% (up 2.9%).

Japanese production of blast furnace pig iron totaled 7,429,000 tons in July 2008, up 169,000 tons or 2.3% from a month ago (down 0.9% from a year ago).

Japanese manufacture of HR steel products totaled 9,317,000 tons in July 2008, up 4,000 tons from a month ago (up 1.5% from a year ago). Of the total, ordinary steel products accounted for 7,399,000 tons, down 45,000 tons or 0.6% from a month ago (up 0.1% from a year ago), and specialty steel products 1,918,000 tons, up 49,000 tons or 2.6% (up 7.2%).
