Japan's Local Scrap Prices Average Y51,936 In Three Main Areas
Japan's domestic market prices of locally available ferrous scrap averaged Y51,936/ton delivered steelworks for No2 HMS in the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai areas in the third week of August 2008, down Y5,700 from a week ago, according to a survey by the Japan Ferrous Raw Materials Association. As a result, the average price declined for five consecutive weeks, with a cumulative fall of Y16,177.

In the third week of August 2008, the monitor prices of No2 HMS ex steelworks in cash transactions were Y51,167/ton in Kanto, down Y7,000 from a week ago; Y51,740/ton in Chubu, down Y5,600; and Y52,900/ton in Kansai, down Y4,500. The monitor price indicates the average of benchmark prices.

In the week under review, No2 HMS prices across the nation averaged Y52,001/ton delivered steelworks, down Y7,014 from a week ago.
