China's imports of finished steel products totaled 1,444,000 tons in July 2008, up 14.3% from a month ago, when they increased by 2.3% from a year ago, according to a survey by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation.
Of the total, CR sheets accounted for 335,000 tons, up 17.1% from a month ago; galvanized sheets 352,000 tons, up 28.5%; HR coils 103,000 tons, down 1.9%; electrical sheets 97,000 tons, up 18.3%; bars 41,000 tons, up 2.5%; wire rods 42,000 tons, down 4.5%; heavy and medium plates 68,000 tons, down 4.2%; and tubular products 72,000 tons, up 9.1%.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan supplied 660,000 tons, up 20.4% from a month ago; South Korea 341,000 tons, up 10.7%; Taiwan 233,000 tons, up 8.9%; the USA 20,000 tons, up 5.3%; and the EU27 nations 101,000 tons, up 12.2%, in which Germany accounted for 43,000 tons, up 10.3%. |
