The quantities of main ferro-alloys (8 items) supplied (produced and imported) and consumed by the steel industry of Japan for April - June quarter of 2008 were as per the tables (1) and (2) attached hereto. The output of crude steel in Japan for this quarter came to 31.060 million tons, having increased by 4% compared with that (29.892 million tons) for the same quarter of 2007.|
In line with this tide, the quantities of manganese ferro-alloys consumed in Japan for April - June quarter of 2008 increased by 7% for high carbon ferro-manganese, by 31% for medium and low carbon ferro-manganese and by 7% for silico-manganese respectively, in comparison with those for the same quarter of 2007. The consumption of high carbon ferro-chrome in Japan for this quarter decreased but that of low carbon ferro-chrome increased by 3% compared to that for the same quarter of 2007, reflecting the increased production of special steels in the corresponding period. As regards special ferro-alloys, the consumption of ferro-vanadium by Japan in April - June quarter of 2008 continued on a favorable tone and had a considerable increase of 37% compared with that in the same quarter of 2007.
Since the movements of main ferro-alloys in Japan for April - June quarter of 2008 were known, the quantities of ferro-alloys produced in Japan for the first half (January - June) of 2008 were <> ferro-manganese : increased by 0.7%, <> silico-manganese : increased by 30.1% and <> low carbon ferro-chrome : increased by 18.0%, in comparison with those for the same period of 2007.
