| $30-50 Price Hike In NSC's Chinese Deal For Container-Grade HR Coils |
|
Nippon Steel Corp (NSC) has negotiated a price increase of US$30-50/ton in its export deal of container-grade HR coils with a major container manufacturer in China for shipments in the October-December quarter. As to the supply volume, NSC is thought to have settled a flat 15,000 tons in total. It is understood that NSC found it difficult to meet the Chinese customer's requirement of an increased supply volume. NSC's successful price increase this time reflects a continued upswing of demand in Asia for high-grade HR coils to put out products such as weatherproof containers and automotive CR sheets, market observers agree. At present, transaction prices of high-grade HR coils are trending upward in Asia. As to commodity-grade HR coils, transaction prices in Asia have entered an adjustment phase until now. As a result, they indicate a fall of nearly US$100/ton so far. Meanwhile, a Japanese export deal of HR coils has shaped up with a price increase of US$30-50/ton for October-December shipments to Kenya, according to market sources. The supply volume under contract is seen as a total of 20,000-25,000 tons. |
