| End Aug US Market Prices Down For HR, CR Sheets |
|
Domestic market prices of steel products in the USA went down from a month ago both for HR sheets and CR sheets in the Middle West at the end of August when they went up from a month ago for heavy plates, according to a survey by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation. Summing up the findings of its survey, the JISF gives the following report. <>At the end of August, Midwest market prices of flat products fell by $21 from a month ago to $1,047/ton for HR sheets and by $3 to $1,150/ton for CR sheets, while they rose by $57 from a month ago to $1,214/ton for heavy plates and moved sideways at $1,222/ton for hot-dip galvanized sheets. As a result, the market prices of HR sheets and CR sheets declined from a month ago for the first time in a year since August last year. <>At the end of August, Midwest market prices of long products advanced by $61 from a month ago to $1,116/ton for structural shapes and by $5 to $970/ton for rebars, while they receded by $14 from a month ago to $1,017/ton for wire rods. As a result, the market prices of wire rods lowered from a month ago for the first time in 11 months. Some steelmakers priced up long products by $30/ton in mid-August amid a lulled surge in ferrous scrap prices. <>With domestic steel demand short on momentum, major integrated steelmakers such as ArcelorMittal USA and AK Steel Corp retracted price increases of $40-60/ton in their steel shipments from Sept 1. |
