Rio Tinto's Cape Lambert Rail Car-Dumper Returns To Service
= Force majeure notification of Sep 3 lifted =
Rio Tinto announced September 15 that its Car Dumper 2 at Cape Lambert, which has been shut since an air compressor car was jammed in the dumper on August 31, has returned to service and the resumption of full operations has taken place at the port. Following a series of tests, safety checks and progressive ramp-up, the dumper returned to peak cycle overnight and has already unloaded several trains. The force majeure notification of September 3 has now been terminated. The twin-cell dumper incurred no significant damage.

Rio Tinto is operating a total of five rail car-dumpers at Dampier and Cape Lambert, the Company's iron ore shipping ports. Other four dumpers at Dampier and Cape Lambert were operated at peak capacity throughout the shut of the Car Dumper 2 and the flexibility gained through the Company's one-port system meant that Rio Tinto was able to minimize any loss of tonnage and minimize any demurrage as a result.
