Japan's Local Scrap Prices Average Y44,164 In Three Main Areas
Japan's domestic market prices of locally available ferrous scrap averaged Y44,164/ton delivered steelworks for No2 HMS in the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai areas in the fourth week of September 2008, up Y2,889 from a week ago, according to a survey by the Japan Ferrous Raw Materials Association. As a result, the average price advanced for two consecutive weeks.

In the fourth week of September 2008, the monitor prices of No2 HMS ex steelworks in cash transactions were Y43,833/ton in Kanto, up Y3,500 from a week ago; Y43,260/ton in Chubu, up Y3,500; and Y45,400/ton in Kansai, up Y1,667. The monitor price indicates the average of benchmark prices.

In the week under review, No2 HMS prices across the nation averaged Y42,813/ton delivered steelworks, up Y2,881 from a week ago.
