Brazil's Exports Of Manganese Ores In August 2008
= Exported 329,000 Tons As Increased By 2.5 Times Compared To That In July
The quantities (on material base) of manganese ores exported from Brazil in January - August of 2008 as well as in a single month of August were as per the tables attached hereto.

Namely, Brazil exported 329,294 tons of manganese ores in August of 2008, having had a considerable increase of 2.5 times compared with that (129,615 tons) in the previous month of July. The exports in August recorded the largest one per month in the past years and accelerated to increase exports of manganese ores from Brazil because of the steeply risen prices of manganese ores and manganese ferro-alloys in the world.

In August of 2008, Brazil exported <> medium and high grade manganese ores (containing Mn 39% min.) : 1,675 tons (increased by 6.7 times from that in July) and <> other manganese ores (low grade ores) : 327,619 tons (increased by 2.5 times from that in July). These sudden increases of the exports in August were due to the high levels of low grade manganese ores exported from Brazil to France and Norway and also the high level of manganese ore exported to China, following the same case in July.

Also, another characteristic in exports of manganese ores from Brazil in August was that 1,675 tons of high grade manganese ore were exported from Brazil to mainly China. According to the customs-statistics released in Brazil, the export of high grade manganese ore from Brazil continued to be nil from March of 2007 but Brazil resumed to export high grade manganese ore from April of 2008. However, the exports of Brazilian high grade manganese ore were shipped to only two countries of Turkey and China, having had a very small share of 0.5% of the whole. The reality, which Brazil exported many cargoes of high grade manganese ore under name of low grade manganese ore, has still continued.

The total quantity of manganese ores exported from Brazil in January - August of 2008 came to 1,512,000 tons, which had a large increase of 76.6% compared with that (701,780 tons) in the same period of 2007 and included 450,000 tons for China (increased by 3.3 times from that in the same period of 2007) and 470,000 tons for France (increased by 2.5 times from that in 2007). Therefore, the exports of manganese ores from Brazil to China and France in the first 8 months of 2008 shared a majority of the whole.

For a reference, the quantities (on material base) of manganese ferro-alloys exported from Brazil in August of 2008 were <> high carbon ferro-manganese (with carbon 2% min.) : 3,392 tons ( increased by 94.8% from that in July ), <> medium and low carbon ferro-manganese (with carbon 2% max.) : 702 tons (decreased by 48.4% from that in July ) and <> silico-manganese : 5,798 tons (decreased by 19.9% from that in July ).
