| SDI's Q3 Net Profit Up 91.8% To $193M |

US electric steelmaker Steel Dynamics Inc (SDI) of Fort Wayne, Indiana won an increase of 91.8% to a level of $193 million as net profit in its consolidated earnings results for the third quarter (July-September) of 2008. SDI announced its consolidated results of $2,563,943,000 in sales in July-September 2008, up 121.7% from the same period of 2007; $336,182,000 in operating profit, up 93.3%; $307,078,000 in pretax profit, up 92.0%; and $193,008,000 in net profit, up 91.8%. SDI's shipments of steel products totaled 1,427,000 tons in July-September 2008, down 12% from the same period of 2007, while OmniSource Corp's ferrous scrap shipments totaled 1,800,000 tons, up 17%. Metal recycler OmniSource is a subsidiary of SDI. Also, SDI announced its consolidated results of $6,870,087,000 in sales in January-September 2008, up 134.2% from the corresponding period of 2007; $946,195,000 in operating profit, up 84.5%; $876,515,000 in pretax profit, up 85.1%; and $546,059,000 in net profit, up 84.0%. |
