Japan's Iron Ore Imports In Sep 08 (Preliminary)
According to the foreign trade statistics (preliminary) for September 2008 announced by the Japanese Ministry of Finance on October 23, iron ore imports into the country in the period turned out 12.301 Mt, the third largest in 2008 as single month imports.

The imports amounted to 150.62 billion yen, and unit import prices averaged 12,245 yen per ton, which was also the highest ever, being equivalent to 1.6 times the level in the previous corresponding month.

The exchange rate for the month stood at US$1 = 108.40 yen, with the Japanese currency falling 0.20 yen with respect to the US dollar, and going 6.77 yen higher than in the same month last year.
