| China's Sept Steel Exports Down 17% To 6.7M Tons |

Shipments To Thailand Up 20.5% To 194,000 Tons China's steel exports totaled 6,701,000 tons in September 2008, down 17.0% from a month ago, when shipments to almost all areas decreased from a month ago except for North America, according to a survey by the China Iron & Steel Association. The findings of the survey are described as follows. <>In China's steel exports in September 2008, shipments to three neighboring nations totaled 37,000 tons for Japan, down 44.8% from a month ago; 1,317,000 tons for South Korea, down 20.8%; and 165,000 tons for Taiwan, down 13.2%. <>Shipments to ASEAN totaled 656,000 tons, down 10% from a month ago. Of the total, Thailand accounted for 194,000 tons, up 20.5% from a month ago; Malaysia 110,000 tons, up 0.19%; Vietnam 97,000 tons, down 11.0%; Singapore 202,000 tons, down 14%; Indonesia 91,000 tons, down 22.9%; and Philippines 58,000 tons, down 46.3%. <>Shipments to North America totaled 675,000 tons, up 7.3% from a month ago, in which the USA took 589,000 ton, up 0.02%; those to the Middle East 1,024,000 tons, down 40.5%; those to the EU27 nations 1,027,000 tons, down 16.7%; and those to Oceania 110,000 tons, up 31%. <>In the breakdown of China's September steel exports by main items, heavy and medium plates accounted for 709,000 tons, up 1.7% from a month ago; HR coils 927,000 tons, up 0.2%; alloyed steel products 445,000 tons, down 46.7%; wire rods 561,000 tons, down 35.1%; bars 913,000 tons, down 23.7%; shapes 389,000 tons, down 17.8%; and steel ingots/semis 212,000 tons, down 62.3%. |
