Brazilian resources company Vale has turned out to time charter six large-scale bulk carriers for a period comprised between 2 and 4 months, according to the bulk carrier market sources of October 27. The time charter rates of the six vessels vary from the lowest US$8,000 / day for a 132,000-dwt type vessel, and the highest US$20,000/day for a 245,000-dwt type vessel. It is rather unusual for Vale to charter such a number of vessels at one time.
Among other vessels chartered by Vale, the HEBEI SUCCESS (245,000 dwt) is a bulk carrier rebuilt from an oil tanker. While the bulk carrier market was thriving, rebuilding of oil tankers into bulk carriers was not a rare case. The table below outlines the vessels time chartered by Vale this time. |
