| = In Norther Province Of New Caledonia, Neaoutyine Province's President Attends At Inauguration |
|
Eramet of France announced on the 20th of November that SLN = Societe Le Nickel, a subsidiary of Eramet in New Caledonia, completed the construction of beneficiation plant at the Tiebaghi nickel mine in Northern Province of New Caledonia and held on the 19th of November the inauguration of this plant. Mr. Paul Neaoutyine, the President of Northern Province, attended at this ceremony. This plant has aimed to beneficiate low grade nickel ore (tail-ore) mined at the Tiebaghi nickel mine in Northern Province of New Caledonia. The technology has been developed by the Eramet research centre in Trappes and extends the lifespan of the deposit and mine by around 25%. Nickel ore is transported to the Doniambo nickel refinery. For a reference, the nickel mines operated by Eramet have been so far concentrated on Southern Province but the nickel mines in Northern Province are operated hereafter on a substantial scale and, consequently, a differential of economy between Southern Province and Northern Province is expected to be improved. Namely, the completion of beneficiation plant is evaluated as the first step to contribute to this improvement. This Euro 125 million investment has provided work for approximately 60 New Caledonian enterprises and almost 500 jobs have been created at the site for local people, approximately 100 of whom work in the processing unit. In addition, the Doniambo nickel refinery renovated one of its electric furnaces for Euro 100 million in 2008. Since 2003, SLN invested Euro 720 million to upgrade its production assets in New Caledonia. |
