South Korea's ferrous scrap imports totaled 6,726,000 tons in January-October 2008, up 18.9% from the same period of 2007, amounting to an annualized level of 8,070,000 tons, according to South Korean customs statistics made available in Tokyo.
In the breakdown by main sources, the USA supplied the largest quantity of 2,546,000 tons or 37.9% of the total, up 53.7% from the same period of 2007. Japan ranked second at 2,247,000 tons or 33.4%, down 22.8%; and Russia third at 1,098,000 tons or 16.3%, up 63.7%.
As a result, the USA and Japan together accounted for 71.3% of the total. |
