Owing to the aggressive sales of Chinese standard ferro-silicon at discounted prices by part of producers and traders, the market price of ferro-silicon has fallen to a considerable extent and, at a meeting held recently, in order to maintain its regularity and to normalize the market situation, nine major producers of ferro-silicon in China have decided to negotiate hereafter on the price of standard ferro-silicon to be exported from China by means of setting up the benchmark price.
The level of this benchmark price for export of Chinese ferro-silicon is not known yet but, according to an information, is supposed to aim at US$1,090 per metric ton FOB China. The current price of standard ferro-silicon (Si 75% material) prevailing in domestic market of China has corresponded to US$1,000 - 1,030 per metric ton FOB. The benchmark price of standard ferro-silicon intended by these major producers to set up is somewhat higher than the domestic price but it is thought that, in view of its profitability, producers' side has really wished to keep the level of US$1,090 FOB. |
