USA's Imports Of Ferro-Alloys In January 2009 Decreased By 31% From That In Dec. / 08
= Imported 73,890 Tons In Total, Imports Of High Carbon FeCr Were On Low Level
According to the trade statistics released by the US Department of Commerce, the imports of ferro-alloys into the USA in January of 2009 were as per the table attached hereto.

Namely, the USA imported 73,890 tons in material of ferro-alloyus in January of 2009, which had a considerable decrease of 31.1% compared with that (107,229 tons) in the previous month of December of 2008 and recorded a lower level than that (83,843 tons) in September of 2005.

The quantities (on material base) of main ferro-alloys imported into the USA in January of 2009 were <> high carbon ferro-manganese (with C 2% min.) : 21,627 tons (increased by 2.2 times from that in December of 2008), <> medium and low carbon ferro-manganese (with C 2% max.) : 7,497 tons (decreased by 42.0% from that in Dec. / 08), <>ferro-silicon (with Si 55% min.) : 11,432 tons (decreased by 40.6% from that in Dec. / 08), <> silico-manganese : 20,768 tons (increased by 2.4 times from that in Dec. / 08), <> high carbon ferro-chrome (with C 4% min.) : 5,121 tons (decreased by 86.8% from that in Dec. / 08), <> low carbon ferro-chrome (with C 4% max.) : 3,953 tons (increased by 2.1 times from that in Dec. / 08) and <> ferro-nickel : 671 tons (decreased by 64.3% from that in Dec. / 08).

The US imports of low carbon ferro-chrome and molybdenum in January of 2009 were on high levels but, on the other hand, the USA decreased the imports of high carbon ferro-chrome in January of 2009 to a low level of 5,000 tons per month, following that (4,373 tons) in October of 2008.

For a reference, the USA exported 15,722 tons in material of ferro-alloys in January of 2009, having increased by 22.2% compared to that in December of 2008, and this substantial increase of the exports was due to the increased quantities of ferro-manganese in both of high carbon and low carbon materials shipped from the USA in January.
