| Suzutoku's Shinkiba Recycling Facilities To Go On Stream April 13 |

Japan's Suzutoku Ltd, a major ferrous scrap dealer, is contemplating starting commercial operations April 13 of its new recycling facilities whose construction is complete, costing nearly Y3,000 million, at Shinkiba, Koto ward in the Tokyo Bay area. The new facilities represent the relocation of the company's Tokyo facilities scheduled for an April 10 closedown. With a ground area of 4,100m2 (1,240 tsubo), the new facilities are designed to handle industrial waste as well as ferrous scrap and nonferrous metal scrap. They are equipped with 1,250t guillotine shears, a pressing machine, and three overhead traveling cranes. The throughput capacity is 6,000 tpm for ferrous scrap. The guillotine shears feature a base-isolated structure. Meanwhile, Phoenix Metal Corp is set to begin commercial operations April 6 of its new Ichihara recycling facilities in Chiba prefecture that were relocated in the same industrial park. The relocation took a total investment of nearly Y6,000 million. The new facilities occupy 22,000m2 (6,670 tsubo) in ground area and 11,560m2 (3,500 tsubo) in total floor area. The new facilities are equipped with a 3,500 HP shredding machine, two 400 HP preshredding machines, a dust reducer, 1,250t mount shears, a recovery unit for insulating CFC (chlorofluorocarbon), and two overhead traveling cranes. The throughput capacity is 15,000 tpm for ferrous and nonferrous stuff. With the new facilities, Phoenix Metal is poised to take up processing and marketing of metal scrap, intermediate treatment of industrial waste, and recycling of various commodities such as consumer electronics, motor vehicles, motorcycles, vending machines, and personal computers.
