South Korea's ferrous scrap imports totaled 413,000 tons in February 2009, up by a factor of 2.1 from a month ago, when they decreased by 24.1% from a year ago, according to South Korean customs statistics made available in Tokyo.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan accounted for the largest quantity of 243,000 tons or 58.8% of the total, down 15.3% from a year ago, and the USA the second largest of 88,000 tons, down 43.7%.
In January-February 2009, South Korea's ferrous scrap imports totaled 610,000 tons, down 38.2% from the same period of 2008, amounting to an annualized level of 3,650,000 tons. Of the total, Japan supplied 376,000 tons, down 21.9%; the USA 113,000 tons, down 57.9%; Russia 69,000 tons, down 51.5%; and New Zealand 22,000 tons up 105.0%. |
