China's ferrous scrap imports totaled 1,819,000 tons in January-February 2009, up 307.0% from the same period of 2008, according to Chinese trade statistic made available in Tokyo.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan supplied the largest quantity of 755,000 tons or 41.5% of the total, up by a factor of 10.5, and the USA the second largest of 501,000 tons or 27.5%, up by a factor of 8.6.
Australia ranked third at 143,000 tons or 7.8%, up 220.7%; Hong Kong fourth at 115,000 tons or 6.3%, up 65.8%; and South Korea fifth at 58,000 tons or 3.2%, up 407.0% or a factor of 5.3. |
