South Korea's ferrous scrap imports totaled 562,000 tons in March 2009, up 6.8% from a year ago, indicating a year-on-year increase for the first time in six months since September 2008, according to South Korean customs statistics made available in Tokyo.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan ranked first at 236,000 tons, up 8.9% from a year ago; the USA second at 225,000 tons, up 7.7%; and Russia third at 80,000 tons, up 19.9%.
In January-March 2009, South Korea's ferrous scrap imports totaled 1,171,000 tons, down 22.6% from the same period of 2008. Of the total, Japan supplied 612,000 tons or 52.2%, down 12.3%; the USA 338,000 tons or 28.9%, down 29.2%; and Russia 148,000 tons or 12.6%, down 28.8%. |
