|
China's manufacture of finished steel products totaled 144,730,000 tons in January-March 2009, up 2.8% from the same period of 2008, when wire rods accounted for more than 20 million tons in high production growth of long products as a whole, while sheet products made up less production volumes than a year ago, according to a survey by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation. The following are the findings of the survey. <>Of the long products manufactured, rebars accounted for 26,980,000 tons, up 21.0% from the same period of 2008; wire rods 20,640,000 tons, up 8.2%; bars 11,490,000 tons, down 9.0%; small shapes 7,960,000 tons, up 21.4%; large shapes 2,200,000 tons, down 10.9%; and rails 1,120,000 tons, up by a factor of 2.5. <>Of the flat products manufactured, wide HR coils of 3mm thick or thicker accounted for 17,760,000 tons, down 6.2% from the same period of 2008; wide HR coils of 3mm thick or less 4,590,000 tons, down 5.5%; narrow HR coils 8,900,000 tons, down 1.0%; HR sheets 2,190,000 tons, up 34.7%; wide CR coils 4,270,000 tons, down 13.8%; narrow CR coils 1,190,000 tons, down 11.2%; CR sheets 3,050,000 tons, down 3.8%; heavy and medium plates 13,370,000 tons, down 12.6%; plated products 3,670,000 tons, down 9.8%; electrical sheets 920,000 tons, down 13.2%; and colored sheets 890,000 tons, down 7.3%. <>Of the tubular products manufactured, seamless pipes accounted for 4,720,000 tons, up 9.1% from the same period of 2008; and welded pipes 6,020,000 tons, up 12.0%. Meanwhile, China's pig iron production totaled 122,380,000 tons in January-March 2009, up 4.3% from the corresponding period of 2008, when its crude steel production totaled 127,440,000 tons, up 1.4%. |
