|Output Of Stainless Steel Products In Japan For March / 09 Decreased Largely In Cr-Mn Products|
|= Produced Less Than 1,000 Tons Of Cr-Mn Series, Both Of Ni And Cr Based Products Increased|
According to the steel statistics released on the 19th of May by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the quantities of stainless steel products (hot-rolled products) produced at stainless steel companies of Japan in March of 2009 were as per the table attached hereto. |
Namely, the stainless steel industry of Japan produced 123,804 tons in total of stainless steel products in March of 2009, which increased by 6.2% compared with that (116,542 tons) in the previous month of February and consisted of <> chrome-based stainless steel : 44,367 tons (37,402 tons of Cr based products and 6,965 tons of Cr-Mo based products), <> nickel-based stainless steel : 79,437 tons (984 tons of Cr-Mn based products, 63,498 tons of Ni-Cr based products and 14,955 tons of Ni-Cr-Mo based products), and <> other special steels : 5,737 tons.
The output of stainless steel products in Japan for March of 2009 had an increase from that for the previous month of February after an interval of 8 months from August of 2008 but the production of Cr-Mn based stainless steel products (200 series products) in March decreased considerably to a less quantity than 1,000 tons per month. Also, the stainless steel industry of Japan decreased the output of Ni-Cr-Mo based stainless steel products in March but this reduction of the production was offset by an increase of Ni-Cr based stainless steel products.
For a reference, the total quantity of stainless steel products stocked at stainless steel mills in Japan as of the 31st March of 2009 came to 101,117 tons, consisting of <> stainless steel products : 97,968 tons (increased by 1.5% from that at the end February) and <> other special steels : 3,149 tons (decreased by 15.6% from that at the end February). The stocks of stainless steel products at mills have inclined to continue a decrease but, reflecting the increased production in some grades of stainless steel in March, the stocks had a certain increase. Nevertheless, the stocks of Cr-Mn based and Ni-Cr-Mo based stainless steel products were reduced to a considerable extent in March and, consequently, the total quantity of stainless steel products stocked at mills as of the end March had decreased.
