According to China's Customs Statistics for June 2009 announced June 10 by the country's Customs General Administration, iron ore imports into the country during the period were 655.29 million tons (Mt), exceeding 50 Mt for four consecutive months. The unitary import price in the month, at US$68.13 per ton, was a 51.6% drop from the US$140.79 per ton in the previous comparable month. |
As a result, imports in January to June totaled 297.18 Mt, an increase of 67.3 Mt or 29.2% from the same period last year. Imports in 2009 to June ran at an annualized rate of 590 Mt.
