Nippon Steel To Refire Oita No1 Blast Furnace August 2
Nippon Steel Corp announced July 14 that the company intends to refire the No1 blast furnace (inside volume: 5,775m3) August 2 for resumed operations at its Oita works, an intention that is based on the overall consideration of matters such as production efficiency and operation costs as well as the prospects of steel demand.

But the company is contemplating executing a continued banking (a temporary shutdown) of the No2 blast furnace (inside volume: 3,273m3) at its Kimitsu works.

Until now, the Oita No1 blast furnace and the Kimitsu No2 blast furnace have been shut down to meet a rapid and considerable fall in steel demand

At present, Nippon Steel has a total of seven blast furnaces in operation at its five works. The seven blast furnaces are the No2 unit (inside volume: 5,775m3) at the Oita works; the No3 (4,822m3) and the No4 (5,555m3) at the Kimitsu works; the No4 (4,250m3) at the Yawata works; the No2 (2,902m3) at the Muroran works; and the No1 (5,443m3) and the No3 (4,300m3) at the Nagoya works.
