Japan's June Scrap Exports Total 1,007,000 Tons
= Exports Top 1,000,000 Tons For Three Months Running
Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,007,000 tons in June 2009, up 100.7% from a year ago, topping 1,000,000 tons for three consecutive months, when they decreased from a month ago for the first time in eight months, according to announced trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance.

Of the total, China took the largest quantity of 505,000 tons, up from 347,000 tons a month ago; and South Korea the second largest of 429,000 tons, down from 607,000 tons a month ago.

In January-June 2009, Japanese ferrous scrap exports totaled 5,552,000 tons, up 74.1% from the same period of 2008, whey they hit an annualized level of 11,100,000 tons. In the breakdown by main destinations, China ranked first at 3,031,000 tons or 54.6% of the total, up 128.8%; and South Korea second at 2,091,000 tons or 37.7%, up 31.0%. As a result, the two nations together accounted for 92.3% of the total.
