After two-year exploration and drilling at more than 70 holes measuring 80,000 meters in total length, a geological team has discovered a large iron ore deposit in Lujiang County, Anhui province, China's Iron and Steel Association (CISA) announced August 5. According to a preliminary report, the deposit has a magnetite reserve of 120 million tons (Mt) and a iron sulphide ore (pyrite) reserve of 35 Mt with a potential economic value of nearly 50 billion RMB. The definitive report will be completed by 2010.
In China another super-large iron ore deposit with over 3 billion tons of iron ore reserves was discovered in Benxi City, Liaoning Province in June this year. The deposit is located at Zhenda Taigou, Qiaotou County, Benxi City, where geological studies have been conducted by a special geologist team based on the technical data that had been compiled by Benxi City for nearly 15 years. With further exploratory studies to continue, actual reserves are expected to double. |
