| Japan's August H-Beam Exports Total 35,300 Tons |

Japan's customs cleared H-beam exports totaled 35,300 tons in August 2009, up 55.2% from a month ago (up 62.6% from a year ago), when their FOB values averaged Y52,000/ton (US$547), the same as the month before, according to announced trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance. In the breakdown by main destinations, South Korea accounted for 16,000 tons; Taiwan 1,500 tons; Vietnam 3,700 tons; and Malaysia 6,600 tons. In January-August 2009, Japan's customs cleared H-beam exports totaled 134,000 tons, down 52.1% from the same period of 2008. Meanwhile, Japan's customs cleared H-beam imports totaled 4,900 tons in August 2009, up 32.4% from a month ago (down 47.7% from a year ago), indicate announced trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance. In the breakdown by main sources, South Korea supplied 2,000 tons, and Taiwan 2,900 tons. There were no arrivals from China. In January-August 2009, Japan's customs cleared H-beam imports totaled 45,000 tons, down 19.5% from the same period of 2008. |
