China's Sept Finished Steel Output Totals 61.1M Tons
China's manufacture of finished steel products totaled 61,162,000 tons in September 2009, down 1.3% from a month ago, hitting a level of 60 million tons for four consecutive months, when it increased by 31.6% from a year ago, according to a survey by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation.

The following are the findings of the survey.

<>Of the flat products manufactured, wide HR coils in thin sizes accounted for 2,997,000 tons, up 1.7% from a month ago; wide HR coils with medium thicknesses 7,835,000 tons, down 0.9%; narrow HR coils 3,588,000 tons, down 14.5%; wide CR coils in thin sizes 1,980,000 tons, down 1.1%; narrow CR coils 598,000 tons, up 6.8%; electrical sheets 427,000 tons, down 1.6%; coated sheets 1,741,000 tons, down 9.3%; prepainted sheets 442,000 tons, down 3.9%; heavy plates 1,617,000 tons, up 1.7%; medium plates 3,000,000 tons, up 1.0%; and ultrathick plates (50mm thick or thicker) 308,000 tons, down 16.3%.

<>Of the long products manufactured, large shapes accounted for 819,000 tons, up 8.9% from a month ago; small and midsize shapes 3,700,000 tons, up 7.7%; bars 4,863,000 tons, down 4.0%; rebars 10,817,000 tons, down 1.0%; and wire rods 8,388,000 tons, down 0.8%.

<>Of the tubular products manufactured, seamless pipes accounted for 1,768,000 tons, down 3.2% from a month ago; and welded pipes 2,758,000 tons, down 2.6%.

<>China's pig iron production totaled 47,918,000 tons in September 2009, down 2.8% from a month ago, while its crude steel production totaled 50,711,000 tons, down 3.1%.
