Japan's export shipments of iron and steel products totaled 3,266,000 tons in November 2009, up 34.1% from a year ago (down 4.9% from a month ago), when their values totaled US$2,959.22 million, down 16.9% from a year ago (down 6.3% from a month ago), according to the Japan Iron & Steel Federation. In terms of yen, the values totaled Y267.9 billion, down 23.2% from a year ago (down 5.7% from a month ago).
Of the total export shipments, ordinary steel products accounted for 2,191,000 tons, up 21.9% from a year ago. Of the ordinary steel products exported, HR coils made up 728,000 tons, up 82.1% from a year ago; galvanized sheets 388,000 tons, down 0.3%; heavy plates 302,000 tons, up 20.3%; CR coils 289,000 tons, up 27.6%; welded and butt-welded pipes 87,000 tons, down 20.7%; electrical sheets 62,000 tons, down 6.5%; shapes 61,000 tons, up 9.5%; bars 44,000 tons, up 6.3%; wire rods 41,000 tons, up 29.9%; and seamless pipes 35,000 tons, down 59.5%.
In the breakdown of the total export shipments by main destinations, South Korea took 859,000 tons, up 72.6% from a year ago; China 543,000 tons, up 16.1%; Thailand 436,000 tons, up 22.4%; Taiwan 326,000 tons, up 58.5%; and the USA 87,000 tons, down 9.1%. |
